Judge Charles E. Forbes<\/a>, who wished to build a library for Northampton, left a bequest<\/a> which funded the construction of the Forbes Library<\/a>. Opened in 1894<\/a>, the Richardsonian Romanesque building<\/a> was designed by<\/a> architect William Brocklesby<\/a> of Hartford<\/a>. The first Librarian (1894-1903) of Forbes<\/a> was Charles Ammi Cutter<\/a>, who had created<\/a> the Cutter Expansive Classification System<\/a> when he was Librarian at the Boston Athenaeum<\/a>. The Forbes Library<\/a> is also home to<\/a> the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum<\/a>. <\/p>\n
