It was designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/cgi-bin\/fg.cgi?page=gr&#038;GRid=73813434\">William Fenno Pratt<\/a>, who also designed <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=3716\">a similar parsonage<\/a> for the Congregational church. Built in 1845, St. Mary&#8217;s was Northampton&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=FLkWAAAAYAAJ&#038;dq=northampton%20ma%20catholic%20church&#038;pg=PA109#v=onepage&#038;q=catholic&#038;f=false\">first Catholic church<\/a>. This almost entirely Irish parish constructed a new church on Elm Street in 1885 and a new French-Canadian parish took over the old church. This was later replaced by a new church, the present <a href=\"http:\/\/mhc-macris.net\/Details.aspx?MhcId=NTH.643\">Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church<\/a> at 101 King Street.
