A new station was built adjacent to the earlier structure in 1892 and remained in service as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/waltham\/town_info\/history\/x135751543\/Former-police-officer-shares-stories-from-Walthams-past\">police station<\/a> for seventy-two years.  Afterward, it housed other city offices, but is now home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/walthammuseum.com\/\">Waltham Museum<\/a>.  Founded in 1971 by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/waltham\/news\/opinions\/letters\/x1543604368\/COLUMN-Walthams-history-is-Al-Arenas-life-work\">Al Arena<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailynewstribune.com\/state\/x2141127318\/WALTHAM-125TH-Revisit-history-at-Waltham-Museum\">the Museum<\/a> was housed for a time in the 1871 James Baker House, but from 2005 to 2007, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.encyclopedia.com\/doc\/1P2-7872993.html\">the old Police Station was renovated<\/a> to become <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local\/articles\/2007\/04\/12\/waltham_room_to_grow_at_museum\/\">the Museum&#8217;s new home<\/a>.     <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1871, an old schoolhouse on Lexington Street was converted to become Waltham&#8217;s Police Station.
