The new church purchased the corner lot at Cabot and Chestnut Streets (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapquest.com\/places\/centro-de-restauracion-emanuel-inc-holyoke-ma-9117\">237 Chestnut Street<\/a>) from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nu.com\/aboutnu\/hwpco.asp\">Holyoke Water Power Company<\/a>. Construction began in September, 1887, and <a href=\"http:\/\/mhc-macris.net\/Details.aspx?MhcId=HLY.119\">the church<\/a> was dedicated on March 5, 1889, although it had already been in use since August 1888.  The church was built of granite with brownstone trim.
