R. Smith Building<\/a>, sometimes referred to as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holyokemass.com\/transcript\/allyn\/p14-fin.html\">Holyoke<\/a>&#8216;s first skyscraper. Smith owned the city&#8217;s largest grocery store. He built his eight-story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/chicopeeholyoke\/republican\/index.ssf?\/base\/news-5\/115476413629920.xml&#038;coll=1\">building<\/a> in 1906 (or as early as 1898?). Smith later sold the building to <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=i_ISmusdkIQC&#038;lpg=PA120&#038;ots=Pn-i6e7jJn&#038;dq=%22John%20J.%20Prew%22%20holyoke&#038;pg=PA120#v=onepage&#038;q=%22John%20J.%20Prew%22%20holyoke&#038;f=false\">John J. Prew<\/a>.
