David Field was in Boston that day, and when he brought the news there was a jollification meeting at David Saxton&#8217;s tavern. When the meeting broke up the mellow Whigs woke the echoes of the night by proclaiming about the town the exploits of those men.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Recent <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Developing_Local_Master_Chronologies_and.html?id=IK3WpwAACAAJ\">dendrochronology testing<\/a> has identified the construction date of <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=PcT9nDI8Q-wC&#038;lpg=PA78&#038;ots=w4ZdG04_bn&#038;dq=%22saxton%20house%22%20deerfield&#038;pg=PA78#v=onepage&#038;q=%22saxton%20house%22%20deerfield&#038;f=false\">the house<\/a> as 1763.  I believe this house is the one described by George Sheldon in <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=8u8OAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PP13#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">his book<\/a> entitled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.franklincountyhistory.com\/deerfield\/brownhouse\/index.html\">The Little Brown House on the Albany Road<\/a><\/em> (1915).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The David Saxton House, on Old Main Street in Deerfield, was operated for a time as a tavern and was a meeting place for Whigs (Patriots) during the American Revolution.
