Prentiss<\/a> on land he acquired in 1871 for his Prentiss Wire Mills.  His company produced piano, broom and industrial wire and produced the first wire stitcher for book binding in the United Stats in 1875.  The building today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holyokemass.com\/hwp_1876\/lith16.html\">looks different<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holyokemass.com\/hcv_1879\/pre.html\">that depicted<\/a> in early illustrations.  The current structure may have been significantly altered (with the removal of the original roof) or completely rebuilt (perhaps around 1900, which is the date given the building in the <a href=\"http:\/\/host.appgeo.com\/holyokeMA\/\">Holyoke On-Line Property Viewer<\/a>).  <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.masslive.com\/localbuzz_impact\/2008\/07\/Die%20Cut%20Card%20-%20Front%20Street%20Side-WEB.jpg\">The factory<\/a> was later <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loansenseplus.com\/loan.asp?ln=472013\">home to<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.posnik.com\/html\/042401pp.htm\">Holyoke Die Cut Card Company<\/a>.  Now vacant, the building, which is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holyokehome.com\/2010\/11\/friday-holyoke-fix-because-living-here.html#axzz25eFejH6h\">along<\/a> Holyoke&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/localbuzz\/index.ssf\/2008\/07\/the_long_walk_part_2_maybe.html\">Canal Walk<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2010\/10\/holyoke_presses_mountain_park.html\">may be restored in the future<\/a>.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At 439 Dwight Street in Holyoke a factory was constructed in 1873 by George W.
