Naming his new estate <a href=\"http:\/\/berkshireliving.com\/Gladys-Montgomery-Paul-Rocheleau-Home-Gardening-Chesterwood-July-2010\">Chesterwood<\/a>, he soon built <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=4606\">his studio<\/a> next to the C. 1820 farmhouse.  In 1901 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concordlibrary.org\/scollect\/Fin_Aids\/DCFrench.htm\">French<\/a> replaced the farmhouse with a new Georgian Revival residence designed by Henry Bacon.  Like the studio, also designed by Bacon, the house is covered with stucco that is studded with marble and coal chips.  The sitting room is a replica of the Best Parlor in the French family homestead <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowhampshireblog.com\/2011\/04\/20\/exeter-new-hampshire-sculptor-daniel-chester-french-1850-1931\/\">in Chester, New Hampshire<\/a>.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yeodoug.com\/resources\/dc_french\/chesterwood\/dcfrench_chesterwood.html\">Chesterwood<\/a> was inherited by French&#8217;s daughter, <a href=\"http:\/\/chesterwood.org\/remembering-margaret-french-cresson\/\">Margaret French Cresson<\/a> (1889-1973), who was also <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Margaret_French_Cresson\">a sculptor<\/a>.
