After returning home, he acquired land with a granite quarry in Medfield and c. 1826-1828 constructed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-northampton.org\/virtual_tours\/architecture\/q3mainstreetsouth.html\">a pair of three-story granite front commercial buildings<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northamptonma.gov\/opd\/uploads\/listWidget\/2543\/Central%20Business%20Architecture%20Design%20Guidelines.pdf\">108-112 Main Street<\/a>.  These were built using traditional post-and-beam construction techniques, but with granite instead of wood.
