Thomas Eden<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/gravematter.smugmug.com\/Massachusetts\/Salem\/Broad-Street-Cemetery\/1120948_NTWJBV\/7\/52190415_JAs4a#!i=52190415&#038;k=JAs4a\">d. 1768<\/a>), who lived with his family in one part while running a retail shop in the other.  Later owners partitioned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trulia.com\/homes\/Massachusetts\/Salem\/sold\/372101-40-Summer-St-2-Salem-MA-01970\">the house<\/a> as a residence between them.  In 1889, the entire house was owned by the Browne family and in 1923 it was purchased by the Sanders family.  <a href=\"http:\/\/salemsarchitecture.com\/edenbrownesandershouse\/04.jpg\">The house<\/a> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yourdictionary.com\/matched-board\">matched-board<\/a> gable end. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The asymmetrically-laid-out house at 40 Summer Street in Salem was built around 1762 by Capt.
