It was built in 1867-1868 by Theodore Rust, whose grocery store, Rust &#038; Sons, was located in <a href=\"http:\/\/city.northampton.ma.us:8080\/WebLink8\/0\/doc\/253804\/Page1.aspx\">the building<\/a>, along with many <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=FtMAAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA277#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">other businesses<\/a> over the years.  Until about 1900, there was a public hall upstairs called Rust&#8217;s Hall.
