St. John’s Episcopal Church<\/a> in Northampton was established in 1826. The original wooden church<\/a> was located on on Bridge Street and was designed<\/a> by Thomas Pratt, a noted local builder. His son, architect William Fenno Pratt, later added the steeple and served as the church’s organist and choir director from 1836 to 1861. A new stone church<\/a>, the gift of philanthrophist George Bliss<\/a> of Brooklyn, New York, who was originally from Northampton, was built on Elm Street, adjacent to the campus of Smith College, in 1893.
