{"id":3422,"date":"2011-10-16T10:39:38","date_gmt":"2011-10-16T14:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=3422"},"modified":"2011-10-16T10:39:53","modified_gmt":"2011-10-16T14:39:53","slug":"first-congregational-church-south-hadley-1895","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=3422","title":{"rendered":"First Congregational Church, South Hadley (1895)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Congregational-Church.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"First Church South Hadley\" width=\"500\" height=\"414\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Congregational-Church.jpg 500w, https:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Congregational-Church-300x248.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While still a part of Hadley, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rootsweb.ancestry.com\/~mahampsh\/towns\/southhadley\/\">South Hadley<\/a> acquired its own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/94\/mode\/2up\">minister<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/190\/mode\/2up\">meeting house<\/a> around 1733. When <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/116\/mode\/2up\">a new meeting house<\/a> was built in 1761, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/114\/mode\/2up\">a split occurred<\/a> which eventually led to the erection of a separate meeting house in the eastern section of town, which became the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Granby,_Massachusetts\">town of Granby<\/a> in 1768.  A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/118\/mode\/2up\">third church<\/a> was built in 1815 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/stream\/inoldsouthhadley00east#page\/184\/mode\/2up\">a fourth<\/a> in 1875.  This <a href=\"http:\/\/mtholyoke.cdmhost.com\/cdm4\/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=\/p1030coll8&#038;CISOPTR=6064&#038;CISOBOX=1&#038;REC=15\">latter building<\/a> was <a href=\"http:\/\/mtholyoke.cdmhost.com\/cdm4\/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=\/p1030coll8&#038;CISOPTR=6065&#038;CISOBOX=1&#038;REC=14\">destroyed<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerchurchsouthhadley.org\/ChurchHistoryTheGreatFireof1894.dsp\">great fire of 1894<\/a>.  It was then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panoramio.com\/photo\/29426927\">replaced by<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jdarchitects.com\/churches2.html\">current<\/a> building of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerchurchsouthhadley.org\/\">First Congregational Church<\/a>.      <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While still a part of Hadley, South Hadley acquired its own minister and meeting house around 1733.
