Hunnewell<\/a> House, on Dartmouth Street in Boston&#8217;s Back Bay, was built in 1869-1870.  It was designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scholarsresource.com\/browse\/artist\/2142565306\">Sturgis and Brigham<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nytimes.com\/gst\/abstract.html?res=9803E2DD1531EF33A25756C2A9679C946395D6CF\">Hollis Horatio Hunnewell<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=Wm00AAAAMAAJ&#038;printsec=titlepage&#038;source=gbs_summary_r&#038;cad=0#PRA1-PA150,M1\">son<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/H._H._Hunnewell\">Horatio Hollis Hunnewell<\/a>, a wealthy financier, horticulturalist, and great benefactor of the town and college of Wellesley.  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Hubbard_Sturgis\">Sturgis<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidjrusso.com\/architecture\/brigham\/MacMillan.php\">Brigham<\/a> designed <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=Qg_uLLXLY5kC&#038;pg=PA77&#038;lpg=PA77&#038;dq=%22hunnewell+house%22+back+bay&#038;source=web&#038;ots=oEkspKZBR8&#038;sig=pmb7deBAMSiytSQbnp5NYN9FAOs&#038;hl=en\">the house<\/a> with some of Boston&#8217;s earliest ceramic ornamentation on a building&#8217;s exterior.  The mansard roofs atop the mansion&#8217;s irregularly sized towers, as well as a new one-story wing, were added to the building after a fire in 1881.
