Built as a tavern, it has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amherst.edu\/campuslife\/greenamherst\/design_strategies\/adaptive_reuse\/advancement_precinct\">owned by the College<\/a> since 1924.  It was recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amherst.edu\/campuslife\/greenamherst\/energy_conservation\/weatherization\">renovated<\/a>, with the interior space being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daily5remodel.com\/index.php?action=article&#038;rowid=1069\">redesigned and modernized<\/a>.  An earlier rear addition to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazettenet.com\/2008\/06\/06\/college-give-three-amherst-buildings-new-lease-life?SESSb2b83ac1f775b3a514f5ec1829d38470=gnews\">the house<\/a> and old outbuildings were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amherstma.gov\/archives\/78\/AHC%20minutes%202008%205-6rev.pdf\">demolished<\/a> and the vegetation, which concealed the house from the road, was also removed.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Scott House in Amherst, built in 1793, is the oldest building operated by Amherst College.
