It was built in 1907 for the Churchill family and, from 1950 to 1958, was the home of author <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_R._Garis\">Howard R. Garis<\/a> (1873-1962).  He was the <a href=\"http:\/\/thenostalgialeague.com\/olmag\/jonkins.html\">author<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uncle_Wiggily\">Uncle Wiggily<\/a> stories, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rabbitworldview.com\/unclewiggily.php\">which<\/a> he began <a href=\"http:\/\/earlyradiohistory.us\/wiggily.htm\">writing<\/a> in 1910.  <a href=\"http:\/\/library.syr.edu\/digital\/guides\/g\/garis_hr.htm\">Garis<\/a> also wrote the first 37 <a href=\"http:\/\/tomswift.bobfinnan.com\/ts1.htm\">Tom Swift<\/a> books and other stories under the name <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Victor_Appleton\">Victor Appleton<\/a>, a house pseudonym used by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stratemeyer_Syndicate\">Stratemeyer Syndicate<\/a>.
