Standing in the center of town, it was a popular gathering place for Concord&#8217;s leading citizens.  For five days in October 1774, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Massachusetts_Provincial_Congress\">Massachusetts Provincial Congress<\/a> met in the <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=153\">First Parish Church<\/a>, next door, and the committees of the Congress met in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/history\/history\/online_books\/colonials-patriots\/sitec21.htm\">the Tavern<\/a>.  <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=mmwpAAAAYAAJ&#038;printsec=titlepage&#038;source=gbs_summary_r&#038;cad=0#PPA46,M1\">In 1775<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newenglandtravelplanner.com\/photo_gallery\/concord\/photopages\/008.html\">the Tavern<\/a> was managed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concordma.com\/magazine\/dec99\/taverntales.html\">Amos Wright<\/a>.  On the morning of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanrevolution.org\/battles\/bat_lex.asp\">Battle of April 19<\/a>, the Concord minutemen assembled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playle.com\/listing.php?i=BOOTS32659&#038;PHPSESSID=2dcl2tj7idrf8i5pcs8h8225a5\">the Tavern<\/a>.  Later that day, the British force, under <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Pitcairn\">Maj. John Pitcairn<\/a>, arrived and the British officers were served at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardcow.com\/6672\/the-old-wright-tavern-1747-concord-us-state-town-views-massachusetts-concord\/\">the Tavern<\/a>.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstparish.org\/cms\/\">First Parish Unitarian Church of Concord<\/a> now owns <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=Q7Gu6V06YM0C&#038;printsec=titlepage&#038;source=gbs_summary_r&#038;cad=0#PPA73,M1\">the building<\/a>, which, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrighttavern.org\/about.html\">since 1997<\/a>, has been the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrighttavern.org\/\">Wright Tavern Center for Spiritual Renewal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wright Tavern, on Lexington Road in Concord, was built in 1747 by Ephraim Jones, who operated it until 1751.
