During the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rootsweb.ancestry.com\/~macsalem\/salem_witchcraft.htm\">Salem Witch Trials of 1692<\/a>, Haines gave testimony in <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=PrtgnTdI2DUC&#038;pg=PA107#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">the trial<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elizabeth_Howe\">Elizabeth How<\/a> of Topsfield which resulted in her being hanged as a witch on July 19, 1692, the same day as <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=2312\">Rebecca Nurse<\/a>, her sister-in-law.  Haines moved to New Jersey in 1704 and <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=X24WAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA45#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">sold<\/a> his <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=fXwXNjIqV1IC&#038;pg=PA201#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">house<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=dfluTmx4iogC&#038;pg=PA37#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">John Allen<\/a> of Salem, a gunsmith.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Thomas Haines House, on Centre Street in Danvers, was built in 1681 by Hains, an innkeeper.
