Francis B. Fay<\/a> offered $500 for a town library.  Matching funds were raised and the Fay Library, located in the town hall, was officially started.  It was one of the nation&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysouthborough.com\/2009\/12\/18\/southboroughs-historic-places-the-southborough-public-library\/\">first free municipal libraries<\/a>.  <a href=\"http:\/\/bioguide.congress.gov\/scripts\/biodisplay.pl?index=F000050\">Col. Fay<\/a>, who served as a U.S. Representative, among other public offices, would later donate additional funds to the Library.  <a href=\"http:\/\/southboroughnews.com\/SouthboroughAWalkthroughthepast.htm\">A separate building for the Library<\/a> was constructed in 1909-1911 on land donated by the Burnett family.
