A three-story brick Federal-style building, designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pem.org\/sites\/mcintire\/\">Samuel McIntire<\/a> and built from 1805 to 1807 on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northofboston.org\/travelogues\/travelogue.php?log_id=120\">Chestnut Street<\/a> at Cambridge Street, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawthorneinsalem.org\/images\/image.php?name=MMD1282\">Hamilton Hall<\/a> was built as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salemweb.com\/tales\/hamiltonhall.shtml\">a gathering place and hall for functions<\/a> held by Salem&#8217;s wealthy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/amex\/duel\/peopleevents\/pande05.html\">Federalist<\/a> elite.  A particularly notable event was <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=MsQEAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA388#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">the visit<\/a> by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Visit_of_the_Marquis_de_Lafayette_to_the_United_States\">Marquis de Lafayette<\/a> in 1824.  With its ballroom, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamiltonhall.org\/\">Hamilton Hall<\/a> is still used for <a href=\"http:\/\/djkristinkorpos.blogspot.com\/2010\/07\/cheri-and-kristys-wedding-hamilton-hall.html\">social<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamiltonhall.org\/lectures.html\">cultural<\/a> events, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abrilliantphoto.com\/blog\/?p=905\">being rented<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonweddingphotographers.com\/hamilton-hall-salem-ma-weddings\/\">weddings<\/a>.  The west end of <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewhopkinsart.blogspot.com\/2010\/11\/hamilton-hall-built-in-1805-salem.html\">the building<\/a> was completed in 1824 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/lychee1968\/3585442083\/\">the Greek Revival entrance<\/a> was installed in 1845.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year!!!
