Emmerton<\/a>, the philanthropist who had the year before purchased the <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=6\">House of the Seven Gables<\/a> and would oversee its restoration as a museum.  Designed by architect William G. Rantoul and <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=pGpNAAAAMAAJ&#038;pg=PA246#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">modeled on<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/mass.historicbuildingsct.com\/?p=293\">Derby House<\/a> in Salem, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=bU0AAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA240-IA2#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">the house<\/a> on Chestnut Street was quickly sold to <a href=\"http:\/\/home.swbell.net\/bunny-\/se05.html\">Francis A.
