It was constructed with beams cut from trees on the Colton property.  When the house <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/pictures\/item\/MA0725\/\">was photographed<\/a> in 1934 for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/history\/hdp\/habs\/index.htm\">Historic American Buildings Survey<\/a>, it <a href=\"http:\/\/lcweb2.loc.gov\/pnp\/habshaer\/ma\/ma0700\/ma0725\/photos\/079423pr.jpg\">still displayed the later additions<\/a> of a balustrade on the roof and an elaborate entry portico, which have since been removed.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Built around 1794-1796, the house of Capt.
