A Harvard graduate, farmer and militia captain, Charles Leonard built the house to serve as a tavern.  It had many owners over the years and had become a multifamily rental property by the early twentieth century.  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Capt._Charles_Leonard_House,_Agawam_MA.jpg\">The house<\/a> was purchased and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agawam-history.org\/spgm\/index.php?spgmGal=House%20Tour%20-%20Capt.%20Charles%20Leonard%20House\">restored<\/a> by prominent Agawam citizen Mrs. Minerva Davis, who made it Agawam\u2019s Community House.
