Located near Marblehead&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Town_House_%28Marblehead,_Massachusetts%29\">Old Town House<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_XeV_fUdmO9Q\/SC1wIv4oGxI\/AAAAAAAABZo\/XQe5f_Q81Nc\/s1600-h\/IMG_2176.JPG\">the building<\/a> was <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=ISsWAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA346#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">the home<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=bTsZAAAAYAAJ&#038;pg=PA33#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">Nathan Bowen<\/a>, a merchant who <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=h7gKwyOTgGQC&#038;pg=PA5#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">served as<\/a> Justice of the Peace and Notary Public, and then of Nathan&#8217;s son, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ashley_Bowen\">Ashley Bowen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jstor.org\/pss\/366553\">a sailor<\/a>, who kept a detailed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jstor.org\/pss\/364337\">journal<\/a> and wrote an autobiography.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legendinc.com\/Pages\/MarbleheadNet\/MM\/Articles\/AshleyBowenFrenchIndian.html\">Ashley Bowen<\/a> also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfashop.com\/536206.html\">illustrated<\/a> his Journal with <a href=\"http:\/\/marbleheadmuseum.org\/Ashley_Bowen_Miniatures.pdf\">his own paintings<\/a>.  Ashley Bowen&#8217;s nephew, Nathan Bowen, was a noted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sothebys.com\/app\/live\/lot\/LotDetail.jsp?lot_id=3XWSG\">cabinetmaker<\/a>.  In the twentieth century, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Old_Bowen_House,_Marblehead,_MA.jpg\">the Bowen House<\/a> was used as <a href=\"http:\/\/cthulhufiles.com\/NewEngland\/Marblehead\/marblehead.htm\">the model<\/a> for a house described in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Festival_%28short_story%29\">H.P.
